Australian Suitability:
Finally a domestic vehicle tracker designed especially for Australia, our terrain and Mobile GSM Networks. The MT600 is a fully 4G and 3G compliant model, that has been tested in Australia, and worked great with Telstra, Optus and Vodafone networks.
For background info about what this unit is, how it works, and what it is used for, please read our recent article “Why Choose 4G GPS Tracker for Business” to answer all your questions and queries. Also detailed in the article is the Sunset Shutdown of the Australian 2G GSM network in December 2016, and Telstra started to plan the shutdown of its 3G network, thus making millions of vehicle trackers currently used in Australia useless.
Already available to Australians are the 4G GPS Tracker MT600 models. The unit tested in this review was MT600-E using the frequency bands 800/850/900/1800/2100/2600MHz@FDD LTE.
The good people at Mictrack have not only taken the time to get it right for Australian Network compatibility for 2017 but have further invested in our needs beyond 2018 with a new model on the horizon specifically made for our new 4GX – LTE and 5G network capabilities using our long-distance 700MHz frequencies that will cover a record 96% of the Australian population by 2020. (Now mictrack have released the MT600-AUT Support 700MHz).

The M600 was put to the test both on the technician’s bench, and whilst installed in a Toyota 100 Series Land Cruiser. It was tested both on-road, and off-road, in the city and rural environments. Using a variety of configuration settings, it was tweaked and benchmarked for a balance between data cost savings, and accuracy for the best value in running costs.
Affordability and Running Costs:
We found the M600, once configured correctly, to be able to run comfortably with a prepaid 4G SIM Card with only $15 credit that lasted for 3 Months. (AldiMobile Telstra SIM cost $5 with a $15 recharge set to 365-day long life plan – https://www.aldimobile.com.au/)
When setting up correctly, the unit will only SMS you upon request, at which time it sends you it’s exact location via SMS containing a Google Maps link and other details.
Data was best set to upload every 10 seconds to the live tracking web server, and this proved to use very little data, even whilst driving around for many hours at a time every day. The live tracking website used for our testing was the Mictrack recommended http://www.trackits.com which is free of charge for the first twelve(12) Months, then only the US $5 per year thereafter.
Functionality:
Live Tracking in real-time was great, and the server did not appear to glitch or freeze, as some free monitoring websites do. The historical route playback and mileage reports all worked great also. The website server only required minimal setup for the Australian time zone and warning messages you want sent.
Both Android and iOS free Apps were downloaded from http://www.trackits.com/ or search “Yi Tracker” on Google Play or iOS store to download the App. These Apps were tested for live tracking, the accuracy of position, and historical route playback. They both worked flawlessly during our tests, and we were staggered by the unit’s accuracy and continuity of route recording.
Installation:
As mentioned above, this unit was hardwired into the rear of a Toyota 100 Series Land Cruiser. It only took about 15 minutes to connect it to the rear cigarette lighter power (12-volt accessory switched), and install both the GSM mobile and GPS satellite antennas, then conceal the unit itself into the jack/tool compartment out of sight. The antennas as pictured are not really obvious, but are placed for maximum signal, range and accuracy. Other more covert locations could easily be found within the rear pillar or plastic window surrounds. For long term/permanent installation, a constant 12-volt power wire could also be useful to keep the unit’s onboard backup battery charged for reporting whilst the vehicle is turned off (i.e. towing alert feature, and car battery disconnection reporting, etc). The SOS button was also installed and tested and the results were reported via SMS and App message as expected.
Features:
The remote fuel cut-off function, along with the Accessory off functions worked quickly and reported as advertised on both the mobile app and via the web tracking server.
The “Geo-fence” feature and Over-Speed alert proved surprisingly accurate and were very simple to configure using SMS messages sent from the designated master mobile phone number. High-Temperature Alarm, audio monitoring and two-way voice communication were not tested here, as they are not features of the MT600.
For these and other features such as fuel level and door sensing and Siren, please stay tuned for our forthcoming reviews of various 4G and other models.
Conclusion:
All in all, the MT600 lived up to all of the claims made of it and did not disappoint. For an entry-level satellite vehicle tracker, both affordable and functional for domestic private users, you can’t go past this well-designed unit from Mictrack.
Happy Tracking !!!
